  • Options include the Cairngorms, Glencoe, Torridon, Ben Nevis, and surrounding areas. This is a custom-made experience that can be tailored to your own adventure goals.

  • Join me for a full day in the Scottish Highlands, learning essential winter skills for safe and confident mountain walking. Get hands-on experience using crampons and ice axes, navigating snowy terrain, and choosing safe routes, all while soaking up breathtaking winter views. Perfect for anyone looking to build confidence and independence in the mountains while ticking off that big winter hill day.


    • Boots (B1 or B2 rated winter mountaineering boots) 

    • Rucksack (30-40 litres) 

    • Gaiters (optional) 

    • Waterproof jacket (with hood) 

    • Waterproof over trousers 

    • Ice Axe 

    • Crampons 

    • Helmet 

    • Ski goggles (essential)

    • Thermal top or vest 

    • Spare warm layers (synthetic jacket or fleece) 

    • Warm mountain trousers 

    • Thick socks 

    • Warm hat 

    • Gloves or mitts x 3 pairs 

    • Headtorch (with spare batteries and/or spare headtorch) 

    • Compass – Silva type 4 recommended with a 1:40,000

    • Thermos flask with hot drink 

    • Packed lunch 

    • Personal first aid kit

  • Need gear? Boots, crampons, and ice axes are all available to hire locally.

Winter Skills 2 Day Course (£200pp Min 2 people to run)

  • Options include the Cairngorms, Glencoe and The Lake District.

  • The main topics to be covered are: 

    • Selection and organisation of personal kit appropriate to winter hill walking

    • Personal movement skills on snow and ice, including boot work and kicking steps 

    • The use of ice axe for walking and self-arrest

    • Use of crampons in ascent/descent

    • Emergency procedures

    • Avalanche awareness and safe route choice

    • Winter navigation
